Tokyo (in Japanese means the east of the capital) is the capital of Japan, located on the eastern side of the largest of the four Japanese islands to the mainland -hooncho-, and on the West Bank of the Bay of Tokyo, near the mouth of the Sumida River. The capital of Japan from 1868, is today the political, economic and cultural center of the country.
